Okay, I've decided I'm gonna go for it and buy one, never bought one before because I thought it was a waste of money but after being on the forum for a month it seems everyone swears that they really help. I've been researching and I've decided it will be one of these, for my 05 CTD.
AEM Brute Force - $245
AirAid Quickfit - $263
Volant CAI w/ box - $290
AFE Stage 1 - $295
Money isnt really a problem I'm wondering if im really gonna see better performance for the extra $50? I know with the Volant you also get a new box, which I like and would pay $45 for easy. But all the others dont say anything about it, they look like they either use the factory box or only have a small shield. I just cleaned my factory filter and box today and there was alot of small leaves, butterfly wings and other small pieces of debree so if my factory box is sucking that much stuff up I dont wanna know what it will without a box. Anyways any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been thinking about a Volant. They have a new box and I think they have a Snorkel that grabs air from the bumper too. I think Banks has one as well. You might check into Banks as well.

I love my AFE stage 2. Now I just need the exhaust to go with it.

Just talked to a friend, he says I should either cut only the cat off or cut both the cat and muffler off, whats yall's suggestion on that? And does it quiet down a bit if I dual it out?

cut both cat and muffler off, dont need either. and go for the BHAF which is what we are building. through our buddy we can get the donaldson filter for 30 bucks. then you just need an elbow and design a simple heatshield out of sheetmetal. not really that hard. and its just as good if not better than most aftermarket filters.

^^ He's got a good point, I'm running a AFE Stage II, and I can't tell a difference. Maybe lower Egt's WOT.
